Day 17 – Today was the hardest day so far. For those of you not in Lexington, KY, it was HOT today and incredibly humid.
To start things out, as we were coming in from the paddock I was daydreaming about winter and Luc surprised me with a mini rear as we passed a mare he apparently loved with all of his heart. After a quick discussion through lunging, he decided that she may not be worth the trouble, and walked quietly with me the rest of the way.
I’m embarrassed that he caught me off guard, but happy that he came back to focus so quickly.
Once under saddle, we worked on flexion and maintaining tempo while I asked for a bend. It took longer than it has been to get him to start reaching for the bit, but he sustained a trot with more suspension than normal, so I’m not complaining.
We did about a 40 minute ride, much of which during thunder and lightening. He kept his focus on me even when horses in surrounding paddocks were going ballistic. Good boy.
His canter is getting stronger and stronger, and he is able to get several laps in now 🙂
This is by far the most sweat we’ve gotten. Work hard play hard!
Thanks for following!
