Day 22- Had a very pleasant day with Lucero today. Started out with snuggles in the stall – this is the first time I have caught him laying down and he didn’t mind me intruding one bit.
He was so darn cute that I let him snooze for a bit while I groomed him.
I took the stirrups off my saddle and rode him stirrupless for the first time.
He stretched over his back at the walk and trot and let me put his nose wherever I wanted.
I wonder if our little adventure the other day broke through some invisible barrier- it’s like we have a whole new level of trust and dependence with each other.
And it’s awesome.
Introduced shoulder in coming out of a corner at the walk, he accepted it and seemed to pick up on it quickly.
We also introduced side passing against the rail- we’ve only done it once on the ground- and he gave a couple of good steps.
We worked on walking leg yield on and off the rail, which he is rapidly improving on. Surprisingly he does better yielding off the rail than on.
He gave me his first 2 bucks during this intensive training on our trot to canter transitions. It was our first time with me asking for the canter from the sitting trot, and I think he wasn’t quite sure how to balance going into it at first. It was the first 2 transitions, after that no more, so I’m not upset about it.
Ended the training working on standing while I picked up the arena- again, he moved twice and then decided it was easier to stand still XD
Thank you for following!
** Luke 16: 10,11 – “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. 11 So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches?”
